KIST Acquires ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems Certification
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST; President: Dr. Seok-Jin Yoon) held a signboard-hanging ceremony on November 29 after receiving its ISO 37001 anti-bribery management systems certification from the Korea Productivity Center Quality Assurance (KPC-QA; CEO: Jeong Eui Sik).
ISO 37001 is an internationally recognized standard for
anti-bribery management systems, and involves the comprehensive review and
certification of various activities related to healthy organizational management,
including target-setting, corruption risk diagnosis, control plan
establishment, and corruption prevention monitoring activities.
Following Dr. Yoon’s appointment as President of KIST in
July 2020, the Ethical Management Department, a division dedicated to preventing
corruption, was established for the purposes of creating an integrated culture
to eliminate a deep-rooted evil and providing an effective education to promote
uprightness and adherence to ethics by KIST members. The Department has also conducted
many activities outside of the KIST sphere, such as establishing an upright
citizens’ monitoring system for integrated communication with industrial fields
and exchanging information on integrity-related policies with other research
institutes.
The acquisition of the ISO 37001 certification signifies the
systematic completion of KIST’s efforts and implementation of systems to
prevent corruption, laying the foundation for members to perform their duties
with pride.
At the signboard-hanging ceremony, Dr. Yoon stated, "This certification will serve as an opportunity to solidify KIST's will to become a research institute that is increasingly trusted by the government and the public," adding, "we will make efforts to create an autonomous and responsible culture based on research ethics and ethical management."
