Completion of KIST Europe Guesthouse in Germany
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST; President: Dr. Seok-Jin Yoon) held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the guesthouse at KIST Europe in Saarbr?cken, Saarland, Germany on November 16. Forty people attended the ceremony, including Dr. Bok Cheol Kim, Chairperson of the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST), and Mr. Seung Jae Huh, Consul-General of the South Korean Embassy in Bonn.
The guesthouse at KIST Europe is 5 stories high with a
total area of 1,800m2, and has 27 single rooms (15 17m2 units
/ 12 22m2 units) and 4 family rooms (2 44m2 units / 2 60m2
units). Each room comes furnished with furniture, appliances, and other household
items.
The guesthouse will be used as a residential space for Korean
researchers and industry personnel wishing to explore expansion opportunities and
pursue cooperative activities in Germany, and can also be used as a dormitory
space for global human resources training activities, such as internship
programs and overseas training courses.
Dr. Reichrath, who attended the ceremony on behalf of the
Saarland state government, said, "KIST Europe's various research
cooperation activities and networking have contributed greatly to boosting Saarland's
economy and promoting its research complex internationally. Through the opening
of KIST's Europe guesthouse, we hope to see even more active research
cooperation between our two countries.”
Dr. Kim, Chairperson of the NST, stated, "KIST
Europe's efforts and research results over the past 25 years are highly valued,
and through this new guesthouse, the Institute will serve as an advance base to
support Korea and Europe's local cooperative science and technology efforts. We
will actively support KIST Europe with carrying out its mission of revitalizing
Korea-EU joint cooperation.”
The President of KIST, Dr. Yoon, commented, "With the
completion of this guesthouse, we hope that KIST Europe, which celebrates its
25th anniversary this year, will be able to promote exchanges between excellent
research institutes in Korea, Germany, and Europe and further strengthen its
role as a platform for Korean industries, academic institutions, and research
institutes to enter the European market.”
Dr. Soo Hyun Kim, Director of KIST Europe, said that "the guesthouse will be actively used as a bridge between the Korean and European scientific communities in the future, providing a foothold for KIST Europe to make the leap to the next level."
