KIST Holds Student Science Festival
On April 19, in celebration of Korea’s 52nd Science Day, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) hosted the Share Scientific Imagination Festival at both its Seoul headquarters and the Science Station inside Sangwolgok subway station. The event was geared toward elementary school students and consisted of an Antarctic photograph display, a storytelling session on new & renewable forms of energy, explanations on assembling various scientific devices, science experience booths, and a scientific imagination painting contest.
In cooperation with the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), KIST constructed an Antarctic photograph exhibit at the Science Station to promote awareness of climate change and need for alternative energy. The exhibition will last until June 30, and Antarctic postcards are being handed out to visitors.
On the field at KIST headquarters, science experience booths and a scientific imagination painting contest served to promote scientific concepts to children. The painting contest’s theme was “the future we will live in,” and judges will determine which 15 children will be awarded prizes.
Dr. Lee Byung Gwon, president of KIST, stated, “We spare no effort in working to popularize science and educate future scientists.”
This year marks the 8th anniversary of the event, which drew about 100 participants. Instead of charging entrance fees, KIST encouraged participants to donate clothes, books, and other items that could then be provided to the Life Line Social Welfare Center.
