Hong Thomas Hahn Begins Full-Scale Activities as New Chairman of S&T Council

Hong Thomas Hahn, who was elected the new chairman at the annual S&T Council meeting on December 28, 2009, began his full-scale activities as chairman.
On February 4th, the first steering committee meeting was held to discuss their future goals and plans. The second steering committee meeting, scheduled for March 11th, will discuss the following: (1) ways to make a better welfare system for the S&T industry, (2) agenda for the fourth meeting, which will discuss the S&T Council's plan to enforce the role of the institute, (3) the introduction of the international forum for the G-20 Seoul Summit and the related topic of green technology, (4) request to join Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology, (5) plans for the first S&T Council meeting for 2010, and (6) plans for education and donation support policy measures.
The S&T Council, which considers the common interest of the institutes, aims to have seamless collaboration with the government through mutual cooperation. Currently, there are 44 active member organizations, including KIST.
Hahn will serve as chairman for two years, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011. During his term, he plans to devise a plan regarding the national research development project, and to improve education, research, and industry cooperation.
