KIST President’s Advisory Council held its second meeting on July 22, 2010, at the Shilla Hotel in
At the meeting, KIST President Hong Thomas Hahn presented the agendas he has been pushing since his inauguration as president of KIST last August, and the future plans for the development of KIST.
The KIST President’s Advisory Council, which consists of 15 members, including UC Merced Chancellor Steve Kang, was set up last December with the aim of advising KIST on mid- to long-term strategic plans for the development of KIST. It also aims at providing support in securing resources for research by helping to raise funds for the promotion of research projects and attracting outstanding scientists from abroad.
During his presentation, President Hahn outlined the agendas for (1) building a global research base such as with the establishment of the Indo-Korea Science and Technology Center, (2) attracting new researchers through programs such as the Research Associateship (RA) and Research Resident (RR) programs, and (3) promoting the entrepreneurship initiative aimed at creating tangible results within three years.
In addition, he listed the restructuring of KIST’s research divisions to include silver technology, green technology and interdisciplinary fusion technology, the implementation of the current two vice presidents system, and the improvements made in the performance measurement system as his major accomplishments.
