‘The 2012 Seoul S&T Forum’ co-organized by the Korea Research Council of Fundamental Science and Technology (KRCF), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) was held at the Plaza Hotel and KIST, Seoul, Korea from November 1st to 3rd, 2012 under the theme of ‘A New Role of Public Research Institutes: Sharing Innovation Capacities.’
This year’s Forum gathered about 250 participants including the Presidents of Korean domestic and overseas public research institutes, government officials in charge of Official Development Assistance (ODA) from recipient countries and donor countries, and International Organization Experts from 125 organizations in 61 countries. The Forum opened a venue for in-depth discussions on innovation of developing countries and green technology through sharing experiences of public research institutes’ innovation capacities.
The 2012 Seoul S&T Forum indentified three core components – strategy, infrastructure and human resources – of innovation capacity as necessary and enabling factors for sustainable green growth on a global level. Further, the Forum discussed ways of promoting such innovation capacity and sharing green technology through triangular cooperation. The Forum emphasized the role of public research institutes around the world in leading this triangular cooperation and urged PRIs to take part in this process.
The forum participants from overseas organizations visited KIST on November 3rd, 2012 to attend ‘The 2012 Seoul S&T Forum – Partnership Fair.’ During the Fair, the participants had meetings with specialists from co-organizer of the Forum to discuss on ODA, policy, international cooperation, research collaboration, technology commercialization and intellectual property management for the future collaboration.
Since its inception in 2010, the Seoul S&T Forum has successfully established a platform for public research institutes around the world to discuss such important issues as innovation, green growth, pending global issues, etc. The 2012 Seoul S&T Forum continued to provide a venue for Global S&T leaders to share their insight and experience in hopes of making this world a better place for every human being.
