The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and Stony Brook University (SBU, President Samuel L. Stanley Jr.) agreed to mutually cooperate in the areas of life and health sciences by signing an MOU at Stony Brook University on June 4th (Tuesday).
The objective of this agreement is to create a synergistic effect by mutually cooperating in neurology in which KIST and SBU both have expertise. More specific cooperation measures will follow such as long-term joint research projects in life and health sciences (including neurology) and the establishment of a lab on SBU campus operated by KIST. Further, KIST and SBU will launch cooperative projects in various areas through training, education, exchange of information and personnel, and commercialization of technologies.
Professor Dennis W. Choi of the Department of Neurology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine is appointed as the director of the KIST Brain Science Institute and hence, Professor Choi will be holding a concurrent office both at KIST and SBU ensuring stronger ties between the two institutes.
