KIST’s launch towards an entrepreneurial mindset through curiosity and passion
KIST, a driving force behind Korea's S&T development, is preparing for an exciting launch towards fostering an entrepreneurial mindset. Starting March, a monthly lecture series on entrepreneurship will commence in order to nurture KIST staff members’ creativity and to promote researchers’ R&D perspective grounded on entrepreneurial spirit.
The first lecture of the series was held on March 26, 2010 at the Conventional Hall in the International Cooperation Building. Despite the chilly weather that day, over 260 staff members attended the lecture to hear SYK Global Chairman Steve Kim’s success story. Seats were completely filled and the great positive response was maintained for two hours.
Kim emphasized the importance of curiosity in people and work, immersion in passion, and action for change. He especially emphasized that curiosity is the root of creativity and a satisfying life. He explained employees need communication, motivation, and a fair assessment for a happy workplace. During the Q&A, Kim stated that action is important for the progression of KIST. He also replied that the entrepreneurial spirit of the researchers comes from the joy they feel when their research results are commercialized. After the lecture, the attendees showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
It is regretful that words cannot fully express the excitement from the March lecture. But here is a comment left by an audience member to give an idea to those who could not attend, “I was able to reflect on the passion I used to have but had forgotten about. Also, I feel as though I was able to take a step toward happiness.”
The next lecture in April will be delivered by Chul-Soo Ahn, the writer of ‘The Spirit of Business’ and a chair professor at KAIST. April is already anticipated for the words of Professor Ahn, an exponent for entrepreneurial spirit.
