On May 28, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST, KIST, President Lee Byung-kwon) held the “Sungbuk Dream Playground" event at a playground on its campus, which was a CSR (corporate social responsibility) event for the local community. This event was prepared to provide handicapped children and teenagers with opportunities to have cultural experience, get rid of stress and improve physical abilities.
Approx. 50 children and teenagers with disability participated in science programs and games, together with KIST staff who had received education on cautions and response measures to assist handicapped children. On this day, there was also a ceremony to make a financial donation to Sungbuk Welfare Center for the Disabled. Since September 2009, KIST has collected monthly donations from employees upon their consents. That is, KRW 1,000 is transferred from each employee's monthly salary to the so called "account of love" operated by KIST and the donations are used to sponsor welfare facilities and needy neighbors.
As such, KIST carries out various CSR activities in cooperation with welfare facilities in Sungbuk-gu, Seoul. These activities provide the employees of KIST with opportunities to take part in efforts to help needy neighbors and let KIST build up an image as a companion of the local community.
