KIST President Hong Thomas Hahn, Director Shin Kyung-ho of International Cooperation and Education Division, Principal Research Scientist Chang Joon-yeon, and Senior Research Scientist Kim Hyung-jun visited universities in the Los Angeles area and discussed possibilities for future cooperation as a part of the initiative for a ‘Global Open Innovation Network.’ For this trip, KIST visited UC Irvine, USC, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Merced and signed MOUs with UC Irvine and UC Merced.
The ‘Global Open Innovation Network’ aims to establish partnerships with universities to discover new scientific ideas as well as with businesses to commercialize KIST-developed technologies through an open innovation system. For the latter, KIST participated in the ‘US-Korea TechConnect 2010,’ organized by KOTRA LA, where they presented KIST’s current status of research and discussed individually with 13 foreign companies about possible future cooperation.
