Dr. Koo Chong Min Wins KIST’s Person of the Month Award
- Developed applied technology for 2D nanomaterials with excellent EMR-blocking properties
- Received the award in recognition of outstanding research published in “Science” journal
On Thursday, November 24, Dr. Koo Chong Min of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)’s Center for Materials Architecturing was named the winner of KIST’s Person of the Month Award in recognition of his excellent research.
Dr. Koo, in cooperation with Drexel University’s Professor Yury Gototsi laboratory in the USA, developed electromagnetic radiation (EMR)-blocking technology that has excellent conductibility, is light-weight and low-cost, and has superior processability thanks to a novel 2D nanomaterial transition metal carbide called MXene. The research results were published in “Science” journal (IF: 34.661), with Dr. Koo credited as the article’s co-author.
Dr. Koo received the KIST award due to his outstanding research into the mechanism for MXene’s strong internal multiple reflections, accounting for its excellent conductibility and 2D nanostructure.
KIST’s Person of the Month Award recognizes and rewards overachievers who contribute to the institute in creative and innovative ways. Candidates are nominated by their division heads, and winners are selected by the Reward Deliberation Committee in accordance with the rules stated in the Reward System Instructions (Article 7).
