Delegation of the NRF Symposium visit KIST (6.26)

Top officials from many research foundations of their respective countries visited KIST June 26, 2009 in conjunction with a symposium, which was held to commemorate the launch of the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).
Among them were Dr. Cora Marrett, Deputy Director of the National Science Foundation of the United States; Dr. Dorothea Wagner, Vice President of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft of Germany; Dr. Par Omling, Director General of the Swedish Research Council; Dr. Wenqing Shen, Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; and, Dr. Jurgen Roth, Professor of the University of Zurich of Switzerland.
During the meeting with Dr. Dongwha Kum, President of KIST, they discussed various issues such as how Korea has developed science and technology thus far, what KIST has contributed in the course of the development, and the current status of cooperation with neighboring universities and research institutes. They were also briefed on the international cooperation status of KIST in Germany, where KIST-Europe is located, as well as the status with other countries, including China, and they shared opinions on how to promote cooperative relations with the United States.
Meanwhile, they went on to visit the KISTorium (KIST History Museum) and the delegation showed much interest in the history of KIST, with regard to its research achievements and its role as the national think tank at the early stages after its foundation.
