Ethiopia has been a longtime ally to Korea sending Royal Guards during the Korean War. To support Ethiopia’s development in science, technology, and economy, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) signed an MOU with Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU, President Lee, Jang-gyu), the first institute in Ethiopia to offer degree programs for teachers of technology.
KIST and ASTU agreed to cooperate in the areas of personnel exchange (including researchers, teachers, and students) and joint researches and signed an agreement for mutual cooperation at ASTU on September 30 (Monday).

Professors from ASTU visited KIST in late April for eight days to discuss and gather recommendations on the economic development plans of Ethiopia. In addition, researchers from ASTU participated in the KIST research project on sewage treatment technology since September as visiting researchers. This agreement is a part of the ongoing collaboration between KIST and ASTU. The main objective of this agreement is to enhance Ethiopia’s S&T capacity so that it can become the driving force of Ethiopia’s industrial development.
After signing the agreement, KIST donated the “Science Sharing Fund” to ASTU, which is to be used for boosting and fostering S&T talents in Ethiopia.
