Dr. Song Eun Joo is KIST’s “Person of the Month”
On March 30, Dr. Song Eun Joo from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)’s Molecular Recognition Research Center received KIST’s Person of the Month Award in recognition of her outstanding research.
Dr. Song’s team published new research findings that can be used to mitigate abnormal cell divisions that might result in a wide array of diseases, including cancer. The team discovered that USP35, a deubiquitinating enzyme, controls mitotic progression by regulating the stability and function of Aurora B.
By inhibiting abnormal cell divisions and improving mitotic progression in regard to Aurora B, the team’s research, which was published in the February 2018 edition of Nature Communications, is expected to contribute to the development of antitumor agents and/or treatments for other forms of disease.
KIST’s Person of the Month Award recognizes and rewards overachievers who contribute to the institute in creative, innovative ways. Winners are selected by the Reward Deliberation Committee.
