Dr. Lim Hyewon Takes Over as President of the Korean Society for Brain and Neural Sciences
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) announced that Dr. Lim Hyewon, director of its International Affairs Division, will serve for one year as the 21st president of the Korean Society for Brain and Neural Sciences (KSBNS), beginning on January 1, 2018.
She was initially appointed to the position back in September 2017, at a KSBNS general meeting.
KSBNS was founded in 1997 and currently has 1,500 members, making it the largest Korean brain science association. KSBNS facilitates exchanges of research outcomes and related information, works with world-class scientists to implement new directions for brain and neural research, and helps foster a new generation of brain scientists.
In beginning her role as the new president, Dr. Lim stated, “2018 is a very important year for KSBNS, since it is the year KSBNS becomes incorporated. KSBNS will spare no effort to promote the national government’s Brain Science Development Strategy, such as through the 20th Korean Society for Brain and Neural Science Annual Meeting to take place this August.”
Dr. Lim worked as head of KIST’s Center for Neuroscience and is currently on the National Science & Technology Council’s Special Committee on Bio. She is a vice-president of the Association of Korean Woman Scientists & Engineers, as well as a board member for the Women’s Bioscience Forum.
