6th KIST-KMSA Research Camp Is Held (2016.07.28)
- Students experience the convergence of medicine and engineering -
From July 28-30, The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) Biomedical Research Institute hosted the 6th KIST-KMSA Research Camp in collaboration with the Korean Medical Student Association (KMSA), affording medical students in Korea the chance to participate in scientific research and experience the convergence between medicine and science.
At the camp, 60 KMSA students participated in one of seven research fields at the KIST Biomedical Research Institute and KIST Brain Science Institute. KIST researchers assigned tasks for each field in order to help students develop new ideas through in-depth learning research of a specific topic.

In addition, classes and lectures enhanced students’ understanding of the convergence between medicine and engineering. Senior researcher Kim In-san at the KIST Biomedical Research Institute, formerly a professor in the medical department of Kyungbook National University, delivered a lecture explaining how current research on medicine and engineering is often connected.
KIST Biomedical Research Institute Director Kwon Ik-chan said, “First-hand experience in the research field will enhance students’ understanding of basic scientific research. I hope this program contributes to close collaboration among medical and engineering personnel.”
