On July 8, at the 2016 International Conference on Chemical Investigation and Utilization of Natural Resources (ICCIUNR) for Natural Resource and Material Utilization, Dr. Roh Joo-won, Director of the Smart Farm Solution (SFS) Convergence Research Division at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), was presented the Outstanding Scientist Award by Mongolia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
In 2004, Director Roh started a joint research project on natural substances between Korea and Mongolia. Since 2008, he has contributed to scientific and technological collaboration between Korea and Mongolia through research projects on Mongolian medicinal herbs and the training of Mongolian scientists as head of the Korea-Mongolia Science Technology Collaboration Center. This is his 3rd such award from the Mongolian government, following his receiving of the Best Researcher Award from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in 2011 and the Medal of Honor from the Mongolian Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2012.
ICCIUNR is an annual international symposium held since 2013 by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology and sponsored by the Mongolian government. This year, the conference was held July 8-10 with researchers from Korea, Germany, Russia, China, Japan and Mongolia.
KIST Vice President Lim Tae-hoon delivered the opening remarks and conducted an interview with the Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB), saying, “KIST and Mongolia have pursued active international collaboration over the past 10 years, and we have produced great achievements, such as the development and commercialization of anti-bacterial soap made from Mongolian medicinal herbs. KIST will continue to strengthen its collaborations with its research institute partners, including those from Mongolia, and contribute to the advancement of global science and technology through the expertise it has garnered over the past 50 years.”
