KIST Future Foundation Holds KT&G Scholarship Foundation Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony
On December 11, 2023, the KIST Future Foundation held the KIST Student Researcher Scholarship Award Ceremony, sponsored by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation, at KIST’s headquarters in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.
At this award ceremony attended by KIST Future Foundation Chairman Yong-Jik Kim, KIST President Seok-Jin Yoon, and KT&G Secretary General Hong-Pil Ahn, a total of 33 domestic and foreign student researchers were selected to receive scholarships worth 3 million won each. This scholarship fund, totaling 100 million won, is sponsored by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation as part of a social contribution scholarship project to foster global science and technology talents.
The scholarship recipients selected this time included foreign students from Vietnam, Ukraine, India, China, the Philippines, and Pakistan, as well as students in Master's, PhD, and integrated Master's-PhD programs who have outstanding academic and research achievements.
The KT&G Scholarship Foundation, a public-interest corporation established by KT&G, has been conducting scholarship projects for 16 years, and has been sponsoring scholarships for both domestic and foreign student researchers at KIST every year since 2021.
Yong-Jik Kim, Chairman of the KIST Future Foundation, commented, “The KT&G Scholarship Foundation’s support for future science and technology talent is of great value in supporting our future, and will be a significant stimulus for young students to grow into global science and technology talents.”
An official from the KT&G Scholarship Foundation, which sponsored the scholarship, was quoted as saying, “We will spare no effort in supporting the growth of global science and technology talents who will become the focal point of future growth momentum.”
Established in March 2022, the KIST Future Foundation is the first public-interest foundation to be funded by a research institute. It trains high-level scientists and engineers to expand Korea's science and technology capabilities, holds sharing-type academic conferences to solve social challenges and raise social interest, and promotes scholarship projects to encourage and support the dreams of youths. Since its establishment, the Foundation has been receiving donations of all sizes from KIST employees, alumni, and related companies.
