KIST Europe (Director Lee Ho-seong), which serves as the bridgehead of science and technology between Korea and Europe, organized an event to introduce Germany’s new technologies to Korea and explore the possibility of joint research on nano- and bio-technologies between Korea and Germany.
KIST Europe held the Korea-Germany Joint Workshop on Nano & Bio Technologies at KIST Campus in Hawolgok-dong, Seoul for two days from June 2 to 3. It was organized as a follow-up workshop to the joint workshop previously held in Saarbruken, Germany in October 2013 under the theme of ‘Future Materials and Safety.’ It was sponsored by the Korea Research Council of Fundamental Science and Technology as part of its initiative to support participation in joint R&D on nano-technologies between Korea and Germany and strengthen research capabilities.’
During the workshop, researchers from Korea and Germany presented the result of their joint research on biomaterial development and nano safety evaluation, and they discussed ways to promote joint research between the two countries and cooperation with Korean companies.
On June 2, research findings were presented in two separate sessions on biomaterial and nano safety. On June 3, participants discussed the organization of individual consortiums and business meetings were held with Korean companies.
The workshop was attended by experts of state-run Korean research institutes such as KIST Europe, KIST and KRISS and researchers of Institute for New Materials (INM) under the auspices of Germany’s Leibniz Research Association.
Director Lee Ho-seong of KIST Europe said, “KIST Europe has accumulated research experience in Germany for almost 20 years with Leibniz Research Association, which is one of the four major research associations in Germany. I am pleased that we have the opportunity to share our research outcomes with Korea’s state-run research institutes and companies. He added, “We will continue to hold this type of workshops going forward, so that we can fulfill our role as Korea’s only state-run research institute operating outside the country.”
