Korea Science Journalists Association Pledges to Donate to KIST Future Foundation
On December 16th, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST; President: Seok-Jin Yoon) announced that it had held a donation pledge ceremony with the Korea Science Journalists Association (President: Young-Wan Lee) at KIST’s headquarters in Seongbuk-gu.
Launched in March, the KIST Future Foundation is the first public interest foundation to be established by a government-funded research institute, using 1.49 billion won in funding secured from contributions by 400 KIST employees, who have been donating 1% of their annual salaries since 2012. Since its launch, the Foundation has received contracts and sponsorships from KT&G Scholarship Foundation and Ethan & Alice Marketing. Against this backdrop, the KIST Future Foundation aims to promote science and engineering scholarship programs and social contribution programs for the future of the country and science and technology.
Seok-Jin Yoon, the President of KIST, commented, "I would like to thank the Korea Science Journalists Association, which plays a role in connecting scientists and the public, for agreeing to donate to the KIST Future Foundation. We will use the donations you have provided to promote the Foundation’s planned researcher development programs, youth scholarship and mentoring programs, and ODA programs for solving the social challenges we face.
Young-Wan Lee, the President of the Korea Science Journalists Association, said, "I am happy to be able to work together with the KIST Future Foundation on its meaningful ventures. I hope that good research outcomes and news about the meaningful work being carried out by the Future Foundation can continue to be delivered."
The KIST Future Foundation has appointed Yong-Jik Kim, a lawyer representing KCL Law Firm and Chairman of the Autism Society of Korea, to act as its chairman and program promoter.
