Dr. Cho Won Il Takes Over as President of the Korean Electrochemical Society
This month, Dr. Cho Won Il of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) began his two-year term as the 11th president of the Korean Electrochemical Society (KECS).
KECS was founded in February 1998 and currently has over 6,000 members, making it the premiere Korean electrochemical association. It covers a broad range of electrochemical and engineering research into cutting-edge electrochemical devices (sensors, secondary batteries, fuel cells, capacitors, etc.), corrosion, and plating.
As KECS’s new president, Dr. Cho will be expected to help oversee such major international events as the International Battery Association 2018 Conference in Jeju, PRiME 2020 (co-hosted by Korea, the US, and Japan) in Hawaii, and the International Society of Electrochemistry 2021 Conference in Jeju. These events are intended to help advance KECS through active exchanges of research information among world-class scholars and KECS members.
Dr. Cho obtained a Ph.D. in metallurgy from Korea University, then took up a postdoctoral position at Northwestern University before joining KIST in 1984, later serving as head of its Secondary Battery Research Center.
