KIST launches “Industry-Research Institutes Cooperation Office for K-Club Materials/Components/Equipment”
KIST held its
Innovative Enterprise Cooperation Center’s “2020 K-Club Technology Exchange” at
EL Tower in Yangjae-dong on the 19th of January.
At the event, KIST
announced its plan to establish an “Industry-Research Institute Cooperation
Office for K-Club Materials/Components/Equipment” in K-Club, a subsidiary of
KIST. KIST also stated that it would implement convergent R&D support
projects that are reflective of the R&D tasks and characteristics at
conglomerate research institutes in response to the government’s support
policies for materials, components, and equipment.
Using its
established office, KIST’s Innovative Enterprise Cooperation Center will derive
R&D tasks centered on technological demands, and will actively support
additional requests for performance. To that end, KIST will fully open up its
materials, components, and equipment platforms and share its manufacturing
& analysis equipment with the Cooperation Office in order to establish an
optimal system of promotion that can achieve results in a short period of time.
Moreover, KIST
plans to differentiate its R&D support methods from other government-owned
research institutes by assembling a special Task Force (TF) of researchers who
will work with 100 key materials and components. With the Cooperation Office
and TF being established, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park
Young-Sun) will also offer cooperation in the form of various materials,
components, and equipment support policies. Also, the Ministry of Science and
ICT (Minister Choi Kiyoung) will cooperate by creating “N-Team”, while the
Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Sung Yunmo) will cooperate by launching
the “Convergent Innovation Support Team.”
KIST will
additionally seek to identify members of innovative companies outside of K-Club
who have connections to KIST. In particular, it will also aim to provide both
personnel and physical infrastructure by setting up the “Linking Lab” at the
Institute, with the purpose of assisting businesses that have a large impact on
performance.
During the event,
the head of KIST’s Innovative Enterprise Cooperation Center, Dr. Je Hae June,
announced that the Center would “establish the Cooperation Office, and further
organize a joint cooperative group consisting of research institutes’
affiliated companies.” He also mentioned that he would “put all his efforts
into deriving outcomes related to the government’s policies for materials,
components, and equipment through the Cooperation Office and cooperating
organizations in a short time.”
