KIST Celebrates 53rd Anniversary
On January 31 at its headquarters in Seoul, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) held an official ceremony commemorating its 53rd anniversary. Around 400 people attended the event, including current and former S&T officials and KIST employees.
KIST President Lee Byung Gwon stated that KIST will “expand the horizon for new industries and provide empirical solutions to problems Koreans are facing.” He also said KIST will “proactively pursue inter-Korean S&T cooperation to usher in another century of Korean prosperity.”
KIST Alumni President Oh Myung Hwan added that KIST would “lead Korean job creation and innovative growth while also contributing to building a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.”
The anniversary event was followed by the opening ceremony for Hornig Science Hall, which is located in KIST’s International Cooperation Building and named after the late Dr. Donald Hornig, the US presidential science advisor who visited Korea to help foster KIST’s initial establishment. The hall will be used for exhibiting KIST’s latest research outcomes.
Dr. Lee later remarked that these exhibits would “reflect Korea’s R&D strategy, national agenda, and R&R policies.”
