KIST Jeonbuk Institute of Advanced Composite Materials Celebrates 10th Anniversary
On January 24, at its Wanju campus, the KIST Jeonbuk Institute of Advanced Composite Materials (KIST Jeonbuk) celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Around 300 officials and experts from industry, academia, and various research institutes attended the official ceremony, including Dr. Wohn Kwangyun, chair of the National Research Council of Science & Technology; Dr. Song Ha-jin, governor of Jeollabuk-do; and Dr. Kim Choon-jin, chair of the Jeollabuk-do Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The event began with a video message from Mr. Chung Sye-kyun, Speaker of the National Assembly, followed by congratulatory speeches from attending VIPs. Plaques were then awarded to individuals who greatly contributed to KIST Jeonbuk’s establishment and development. The ceremony ended with the unveiling of the organization’s new slogan: “Together with the local community, KIST Jeonbuk will take its 2nd great leap forward.”
On that same day, KIST Jeonbuk held a 10th anniversary symposium followed by a dedication ceremony for Processing Equipment Complex #2. The symposium was held under the theme “Composite, Beyond the Limit,” and it enabled noted experts to present their views on the potential role of composite materials in the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution. And with the construction of Processing Equipment Complex #2―conducted under the auspices of Jeollabuk-do’s provincial government and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy―KIST Jeonbuk put the finishing touches on an R&D platform encompassing composite materials’ entire lifecycle, from raw materials to finished parts.
Dr. Hong Jae-Min, KIST Jeonbuk’s director-general, expressed gratitude to the national and provincial governments for “supporting KIST Jeonbuk over the last decade as it grew into the world’s biggest composite materials-only research institute.” He further stated that “KIST Jeonbuk will become a model of close integration with the local community, and we will do our best to promote national scientific innovation while simultaneously boosting our core competencies, thereby instigating KIST Jeonbuk’s next leap forward.”
Located in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, KIST Jeonbuk was established in January 2008 as a research institute focused on cutting-edge composite materials used for the defense, aerospace, automobile, construction, sports, and leisure industries.
