KIST and Isu Chemical Unite Through Green Bio and New Energy Technologies
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST; President: Dr. Seok-Jin Yoon) and Isu Chemical (CEO: Mr. Seung-ho Lyu) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 24 at KIST’s headquarters in Seoul.
Smart farm and clean energy-related technologies are strategic
and essential technologies for building a sustainable future. In particular,
the development of technologies for high-value-added foods and drugs based on
natural products is essential for Korean companies looking to enter the global
market.
For its part, KIST has developed such fundamental technologies
through initiatives such as its “Development of High Value-Added Smart Plant
Factory System” and “Carbon to X” programs. Based on KIST’s accumulated
research capabilities, KIST and Isu have decided to cooperate on (1) developing
natural materials and smart farm production technologies, and (2) developing
new materials and technologies for clean energy, and exchanging personnel
resources.
As a follow-up to the agreement, a joint research project
is being planned based on KIST’s Smart Farm test bed to develop plant-based
functional natural product manufacturing and raw material standardization
technologies. In addition, research cooperation will continue in the fields of
next-generation secondary batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen storage
and transportation, and carbon dioxide capture and conversion (CCU).
The President of KIST, Dr. Yoon, stated, “Through this agreement, we will continue to work together with companies such as Isu so that KIST's excellent technologies can have a tangible impact on industries.”
