KIST Ranked Most Scrupulous Korean Research Institute
- Awarded Korea’s highest rating for honesty five years in a row
- The only Korean public research institute listed in the top tier
On December 6, Korea’s Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission announced the results of its evaluation of 573 Korean public institutions. The results showed that, of the 24 research institutes included in the evaluation, only the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) received top marks for institutional honesty.
The evaluation was conducted by surveying civil petitioners, public officials, and institution staff members. Corruption cases were taken into account. Not only did KIST score higher than any other Korean research institute, it was ranked second out of all 573 public institutions evaluated.
The evaluation showed that, on average, ratings for institutional honesty increased by 0.09 points over the previous year, with KIST’s combined average of 8.86 points (9.01 for external integrity [civil petitioners and public servants] and 8.38 for internal integrity [institution staff]) reflecting an overall increase of .03 points.
KIST President Lee Byung Gwon attributed his organization’s 5-year achievement of remaining in the top tier for institutional honesty to its firm anti-corruption stance, explaining that KIST staff were fervently dedicated to continually advancing the institute’s reputation for honesty and fair play.
