KIST Holds Data Garden Exhibition with Soorim Cultural Foundation
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST; President: Dr. Seok-Jin Yoon) will co-host an exhibition with Soorim Cultural Foundation (Chairman: Mr. Kyu-hak Choi). This year's exhibition is titled “Data Garden” and is being held from March 21 to April 30 at Kim Heesoo Art Center, located in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.
Since 2019, KIST and the Soorim Cultural Foundation have been
conducting the Artist View of Science (AVS), a convergence and complex
exhibition project that transcends the boundaries of science and art. Following
up 2019's "Used Future" and 2020's "Disaster Sensation"
exhibitions, this event will mark the third anniversary of AVS, and hints at new
possibilities of AVS serving as an exhibition project that shares the creative
perspectives and thoughts of artists and scientists and expresses them as
contemporary art through mutual cooperation.
The theme of this year’s Data Garden exhibition is “Experienced
Data,” and artists and scientists from KIST, who have different systems of
recognizing, classifying, and analyzing data, have teamed up to communicate and
collaborate under this theme. The resulting seven creative works will be showcased
as a “garden,” while also representing a “garden” themselves grown from individual
data, revealing questions about the scope of perception and practices of the
real and virtual worlds in which we live.
The President of KIST, Dr. Yoon, commented, "Science
and art both have something in common, being based in creativity and
imagination. Through the AVS exhibition, which marks its third anniversary this
year, we can see that the points of contact between these two fields are more
diverse and sharper than ever, so we hope that many people will come, see, and feel
our new attempts to create together."
