17th Hongneung Forum Held
On December 1, 2023, the 17th Hongneung Forum was held together with the 2023 Convergence Forum in Hongneung event under the theme of “Hongneung’s Big Potential, Convergence” at the Korea Creative Content Agency’s Hongneung Content Culture Plaza.
The Hongneung Forum is an academic and research forum conducted by 18 organizations that aims to provide a platform for the discovery and sharing of cooperation measures between local companies, autonomous districts, and other related organizations. Those organizations are the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Kyunghee University, Korea Institute for Advanced Study, Korea University, National Institute of Forest Science, Kookmin University, Dongduk Women's University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, University of Seoul, Seoul Techno Park, Soorim Cultural Foundation, KAIST College of Business, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, Korea National University of Arts, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, and Korea Creative Content Agency.
First held in July 2012, the Hongneung Forum has been held every year for the past 11 years. Starting this year, under the aegis of the Hongneung Forum, a variety of topics will be discussed to seek the development of the Hongneung region and cooperation between institutions.
At this year’s Forum, several in-depth discussions were held to examine domestic and international convergence cases through cultural and artistic content and to seek opportunities for convergence, openness, and cooperation among organizations from various fields in Hongneung.
Speakers included Cannes Next CEO Sten-Kristian Saluveer, who presented on the current status of ecosystem creation and convergence cases in Europe to promote convergence.
Meanwhile, Toshifumi Makita, Deputy Secretary-General of Japan’s Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO), presented on examples of content production using cutting-edge technology in Japan.
And lastly, Seon-Ok Kim, Manager of the Planning and Strategy Department at the Soorim Cultural Foundation, introduced the AVS exhibition project being jointly promoted by art, science, and content organizations near Hongneung, such as the Korea Creative Content Agency, KIST, and the Korea Institute for Advanced Study.
Chaired by Professor Jin-Jun Lee from KAIST, the panel discussion featured experts from various fields, who took part in a 40-minute discussion on the direction of Hongneung's development through convergence and cooperation between fields.

At the conclusion of the event, Hongneung Forum Chairman Gil-Ju Moon expressed his thoughts, saying, “I hope that today’s forum will enable the realization of the convergence of culture, arts, education, and technology and become an opportunity for the development of Hongneung.”
