KIST to Take Part in "Consumer Electronics Show 2020"
KIST announced that it would be participating in “Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020,” the world’s biggest electronics and IT product exhibition, which is being held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10.
KIST will be setting up an independent exhibit hall with eight booths. Although KIST and other government-funded research institutes have been known to set up individual booths in the past, this marks the first time that a research institute will make an appearance at the exhibition on such a large, institutional scale basis. Eureka Park, where KIST’s exhibition will be located, is an exhibition space specializing in the new products and technologies of 2020, and gives consumers opportunities to actively share feedback on new product releases from venture firms, universities, and research institutes.
The KIST
exhibition hall will showcase not only the cutting-edge technologies which it
has recently developed, but also the technologies owned by two member companies
of K-Club, a system launched by KIST to support SMEs.
At this year’s CES, 4 innovative technologies from the research teams at KIST will be unveiled to the public:
- An assisted walking exoskeleton robot for disabled
persons which is controlled solely by mind (Dr. Laehyun Kim)
- 4K high-resolution smart AI glasses that utilize
5G communication and AI deep learning technology (Dr. Min-Chul Park)
- 3D montage and age transformation technology
featuring 3D analysis modeling combined with facial recognition (Dr. Ig Jae
Kim)
- The world’s first precise indoor position recognition and monitoring system utilizing RF signals (Dr. Taikjin Lee)
In addition, the
K-Club member exhibits “Robocare” and “Crimo” will be featured. Robocare will
feature “BOMY-II,” Korea’s first home eldercare robot that comes with UI SW
such as recognition games and other daily care services for the prevention of
dementia, along with “BOMY-I.” Meanwhile, the Crimo exhibit will feature the
“Interactive Smart Block”, a new education platform concept that promotes STEAM
education, software and physical coding training.
The president of
KIST, Dr. Byung Gwon Lee, stated that “this year’s CES will be an opportunity
for government-funded research institutes to represent their innovative
technologies and expand global technology marketing.”
