KIST “People of the Month” Winners Announced
- Hur Eun-mi, Choi Nakwon, Hwang Yoha, and Hur Kahyun head up the list of awardees
On February 26, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) named three research teams “KIST People of the Month” for their outstanding research contributions.
Dr. Hur Eun-mi of KIST’s Convergence Research Center for Diagnosis, Treatment and Care System of Dementia and Dr. Choi Nakwon of the Center for BioMicrosystems led a team in developing new technology for arranging collagen fibers and causing them to grow in specified directions, resulting in the world’s first 3D in vitro model of the brain’s hippocampal neuron network, which plays an important role in learning and memory.
Dr. Hwang Yoha of the Center for Bionics developed new technology for overcoming the limitations and defects of existing algorithms in monitoring machine status―technology which was transferred to AT Signal.
Dr. Hur Kahyun of the Computational Science Research Center used the aforementioned computer simulation technology to discover quasicrystal wave localization in three dimensional space, a process that could then be used to resolve floor noise and develop new materials―such as optic fibers―by trapping light and/or sound.
KIST’s People of the Month Award recognizes and rewards overachievers who contribute to the institute in creative and innovative ways. Candidates are nominated by their division heads, and winners are selected by the Reward Deliberation Committee.
