KIST Celebrates Its 51st Anniversary
- Becoming a global research institute
On February 10, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) held a 51st anniversary ceremony attended by 400 people, including staff and guests, at its main headquarters in Seoul.
In a special message read by Research Outcome Innovation Policy Officer Bae Jae-woong, the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Choi Yang-hee, said, “I ask that KIST conduct the next 50-year chapter of its history by remaining true to the ideals of its founding, and by taking the initiative in national R&D efforts as one of Korea’s key research institutes.” Oh Myung-hwan, president of the KIST colleagues’ association, used his congratulatory message to urge KIST to “remain a world-class research institute 50 years into the future” and to “keep making bold moves in R&D.”
Also taking place at this celebration was the opening ceremony for KIST’s new daycare center, which will support KIST employees by providing convenient, trustworthy childcare services. Located on KIST’s campus, the daycare is a two-story, eco-friendly building with four nurseries, a dining hall, a playroom, and an outdoor playground.
KIST President Lee Byung Gwon stated, “With its beautiful view of our green campus, the KIST daycare center is a place where future talents can grow and be nurtured. KIST works tirelessly to promote a healthy work/life balance and create an environment where employees can focus on their work.”
