KIST (Dr. Lee Byung Gwon, President) and Technical Center of LG Chem (Director Yu Jin-nyeong) signed the MOU on joint research and cooperation at the headquarters of KIST on November 9 and held a seminar for technology exchange.
KIST and LG Chem will accordingly establish a system of cooperation in the field of energy and eco-friendly materials technology and conduct joint projects. They agreed to develop source technologies and commercial technologies through joint research in the fields of six key technologies which were selected by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning as essential to coping with climate change. Their collaboration will range from the development of basic materials to commercialization, drawing on their accumulated knowledge and technologies in the fields of energy and eco-friendly materials technologies. In addition, joint research will be conducted based on KIST’s technologies on secondary battery, fuel cell, solar cell and green technologies.
The MOU is expected to expand the scope of collaboration between the two parties, including exchange of researchers, joint research, research information sharing and joint seminar.
KIST’s President Lee Byung Gwon said “ KIST will strengthen research cooperation with LG Chem which has expertise in energy and materials in order to develop core technologies to cope with climate change and realize a sustainable society.” Director Yu Jin-nyeong stated “I hope the cooperation between the state-funded research institute and the corporate research center will contribute to upgrading the competitiveness of Korea’s materials industry.”
